Overview
This DC Motor Driver Module is a compact H-bridge motor driver designed for low-voltage DC motor control. The module may be populated with either an MX1616 or TC1508A driver IC. Both devices implement a dual H-bridge architecture and share compatible electrical characteristics, control logic, and operating ranges.
The module is intended for bidirectional DC motor control with PWM speed regulation and is suitable for use with microcontrollers, embedded controllers, and robotics platforms operating at low voltages.
Key Features
• DC Motor Driver Module with integrated H-bridge output stage
• Supports bidirectional DC motor control
• Compatible with MX1616 or TC1508A driver IC
• Low-voltage motor supply operation
• PWM speed control via logic input
• Logic-level control compatible with common MCUs
• Compact PCB suitable for embedded applications
Electrical Specifications (Guaranteed Operating Range)
The following specifications apply regardless of which driver IC is installed:
• Motor supply voltage: 2 V to 7 V DC
• Logic supply voltage: 2.0 V to 7 V DC
• Continuous output current:
– Typical range 1.3 A to 1.8 A (per channel, depending on IC variant and thermal conditions)
• Peak output current: higher short-duration current supported, limited by IC protection
• Output stage: H-bridge for forward and reverse motor drive
• Control method:
– Direction control via logic inputs
– Speed control via PWM input
Control Interface
• IN1 / IN2 logic inputs for motor direction control
• PWM input for speed regulation
• Logic HIGH and LOW levels compatible with common 3.3 V and 5 V microcontroller outputs
• No external gate drivers required
Chip Variant Notes
This DC Motor Driver Module may be assembled with either of the following driver ICs:
• MX1616
• TC1508A
Both ICs provide:
• H-bridge motor drive topology
• Low-voltage operation
• Integrated current and thermal protection
• Comparable current handling capability
Electrical limits such as maximum current and thermal behavior may differ slightly between ICs, but the module is specified and tested to operate safely within the ranges listed above regardless of which chip is installed.
Electrical and Usage Notes
• Motor stall current must not exceed the module’s continuous current rating
• Continuous operation near maximum current may require airflow or thermal relief
• PWM frequency should be selected to balance switching losses and motor response
• Proper supply decoupling is recommended to minimize noise
• Not intended for high-voltage or high-power motor applications
Typical Applications
• Low-voltage DC motor control
• Robotics and small mobile platforms
• Embedded motion control systems
• Educational motor driver experiments
• Prototyping and test setups
