The 10Mbit Ethernet LAN Module ENC28J60 for Arduino and other micro controllers is an extremely simply to wire and to program LAN adapter for the Internet of Things (IoT). Several different libraries for any kind of micro controller platform are available. We recommend the “UIPEthernet” library, because it is fully compatible to the original Arduino Ethernet library. Another library would be “EtherCard”, a very simple application, but less powerful.

Just load the library, install one of the countless example sketches you can find online, connect the LAN adapter with your Arduino and your router, and your Arduino is connected to the world!

UIPEthernet library

A plugin-replacement of the stock Arduino Ethernet library for ENC28J60 shields and breakout boards. Full support for persistent (streaming) TCP-connections and UDP (Client and Server each), ARP, ICMP, DHCP and DNS. UIPEthernet is available for download here.

This library uses the same API as the official Arduino Ethernet. It’s useful to integrate ENC28J60 in project on the same way you integrate Arduino Shield. This library is compatible with

  • DHCP
  • DNS
  • UDP
  • TCP
  • ARP
  • ICMP

This library can also be used in combination with Webduino, an Arduino-based Web Server library.

This little Ethernet model works great with an Arduino Uno!
I thought this would be a nice tiny module to connect a Nano to the internet. After struggling with that for a few days I put it away to gather dust. I finally tried it with a Uno and had immediate success. Replacing the Ethernet library with the UIPEthernet library made my existing sketches (written for the W5100) run just fine. My mistake with the Nano is it can only supply 50mA of 3.3V power to the ENC28J60, the UNO can supply 200mA. Just writing this review to maybe make life easier for people trying to use a Nano.

I have Nano’s, Uno’s and relays from Universal Solder. I am very happy with all the products I have purchased.
